If it's not worth the status symbol of having a 4 or 5 watt compromise radio that doesn't hear as well as a real CB, but looks cooler than heck on your dash, then just put in a trusty Cobra or Uniden or Rat Shack. Has anyone ever had any experience with the Cobra Stealth RFX Are they worth the money, or would you be better off with a 10 meter. Live operators are available Monday through Friday 8 AM to 8 PM CST. Cobra's automated help desk is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You'll find answers to many of your questions in our Their FAQ's section. If it turns out to be too big a hassle to run the wires big enough to run the RFX at full-ish output, then you've gotta figure out whether it's worth having a radio that *could* put out more power than the average true CB radio, but with which you can't cuz of the vehicle's wiring and a receiver that was never really tuned properly (at 90% of "CB shops") to work as well in the CB band. For Operational or Technical Assistance with a Cobra Product call Cobra at 1-77. Put a 20-amp fuse someplace concealable near the battery (as close as you can get it to the battery) and then the right size fuse that's recommended for the radio, on the short power pigtail near the radio to protect the radio against shorts or just plain too much current draw cuz of magic screwdrivers "tuning and peaking" whatever they do inside the radio. If you're able, can you run separate, larger gauge wires from the "CB Power Posts" down to the junction block or wherever it picks up its power? I'd personally run a pair of 10 gauge leads through a length of black heat shrink (just don't shrink it, so it'll look natural) or wire loom to help conceal it from prying eyes. No amount of tuning on the antenna will make it broadbanded enough to radiate signals from 27 to 108 (or so) MHz.

Not a good outcome.Īlso you should expect that a "dirty" RFX install, putting out a substantial proportion of its output outside the CB band, will not be transferred efficiently to a CB antenna, so the antenna will reflect the out-of-band signals back to your SWR meter, *correctly* showing a horrible match. Keep in mind, however, that merely increasing the fuse rating won't increase the current carrying capacity of the wires to the binding posts, so you might end up with a case where the wires melt down inside the dash to "protect the fuse". Increase the power to max and see if the fuse holds. If it's got variable power output, turn it down to the minimum before you turn it on, make sure your antenna presents a decent load, and try talking on it. I wuld buyba test SW meter at a CB store or truckstop and a 3 foot coax jumper and use it to adjust your SWR and no the radios meter.Nearly every RFX-equipped CB has been tuned for strictly the highest possible RF output, and usually over 75% of that power above 5 watts has been spurs and harmonics. Oreferably between 1.0 and 1.5 is the majic atea.
#COBRA 29 RFX 150 SERIES#
Any time thev29 series gets tuned evenslightly you eed to readjust thevantenna warning pot.

Reinstall 4 cover screws, hook up your antenna coax. Youhave just adjusted your antenna warning sydtem. Then release moc key and agsn yurn very slowly clockwise until light goes, out. Release mic key and then key mic again and yurn pot vounter #wise just unil lihjt comes back on. Insert screwdriver in pot, and turn it clockwise while holding mic key gown. Lacking a screwdriver you can flatten a piece of coat hanfer and file itvto resemble a screwdriver or steal on of your wifes screwdrivers from her sewing machine. The C class amps have a very dirty output and require a higher. Many of the ch 6 guys do the C class amps. An AB class amp is cleaner sounding than a C class amp. It will also depend how the radio is modified. You will need a small flat top screw diver that fits in the slot of the pot. The kind of amp you choose will determine the kind of settings/wattage you use. There is a number on the circuit board by the pot. At the back right corner area inside the radio is an adjustable potentiometer, commonly called a pot. To fx this, remove the 4 screws that hold the bottom cover on. Also some Cobra 29s are adjusted to touchy and borderline. Was your radio peaked and tuned? If so the Antenna Warning pot needs,to be adjusted.
